BRIDGEWATER PUBLIC LIBRARY COMPUTER & INTERNET USE POLICY
The Bridgewater Public Library, in support of our mission and core values, provides free and open access to the internet by providing computer stations for public use as well as a public WiFi network. All use of Bridgewater Public Library's technology, including but not limited to: desktop computers, laptops, kindles, Chromebooks and other mobile technologies, internet access both wired and Wifi, is subject to the below use policies and any and all use is subject to revocation at the discretion of the Bridgewater Public Library Staff. The internet may contain materials that a user may find controversial or inappropriate. Library users access the internet at their own discretion. Restriction of a minor’s access to the internet is the sole responsibility of that minor’s parent/legal guardian.
COMPUTER USE
- All patrons wishing to use a computer must login at a desktop screen using an active library card from a SAILS member library. Computers may be used for a maximum of 180 minutes per day per library account.
- If you do not have a valid library card you may ask the reference librarian on duty for a guest pass. You are limited to 1 session of up to 60 minutes per day with a guest pass. (Or you may sign up for a library card to gain additional computer access)
- PLEASE SAVE YOUR WORK to a flash drive or cloud storage. If your computer times out, work is lost and not recoverable.
- Log out but do not shut down computers when you are finished.
- Document printing is available for a charge.
- No more than two persons per computer station.
INTERNET USE
- Users agree to follow all federal, state, and local laws regarding internet use, including but not limited to copyright, licensing, and content restrictions.
- Library resources may not be used to access illegal materials or for any illegal or fraudulent actions, including the transmitting of threatening or harassing materials or knowingly transmitting computer viruses.
- Commercial use or political lobbying is inappropriate and not allowed.
- Viewing websites with explicitly sexual or other content inappropriate in a public environment is not allowed.
- Because of the public nature of the library environment and our computer network, users should be cognizant their computer use is not wholly private.
Library staff reserves the right to end a patron's internet session, suspend or terminate indefinitely computer use privileges and/or library privileges at their discretion for anyone who has been found to have violated the library's computer use policy, used the library's internet connection for illegal or inappropriate activities, or has accrued enough library fines to suspend their account. The library expressly disclaims any liability or responsibility arising from access to or use of information obtained through public internet access.
