We have a lot in store for February- everything from programs to crafts to go and new displays, it’s all new in February.
Displays
Right now, we are featuring two displays. The first display contains books on Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year runs from February 1 thru February 15 and in 2022, it is known as the Year of the Tiger. Learn about Chinese New Year food, decorations and red pockets and more at Chinese New Year 2022.
Our second display is Groundhog Day books. Groundhog Day is February 2 and according to lore, if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2, there would be six more weeks of winter. This event is celebrated in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania with a celebration at Gobbler’s Knob when the groundhog will make his declaration.
Upcoming displays for the month of February include books for Black History Month, Winter Olympics 2022 and Valentine’s Day. Our new book display features the newest additions to the collection. Often popular titles are checked out, so if there is something you can not find, you can search the SAILS catalog or ask us to place a hold for you. You will be notified via email or phone (depending how your library card is set up) when your hold is available.
Crafts
In February there will be three different crafts offered. There is a varying level of difficulty however, so one is recommended for the older crowd- tweens and teens.
The first craft, a Take and Make heart wreath, will be available beginning on Tuesday, February 1.
The second craft is a Grab and Go Sequin Snowflake, which will be available beginning on Wednesday, February 16.
The third craft is a Grab and Go Snowman Magnet. This craft has a higher level of difficulty (we recommend using a glue gun) and will be available beginning on Thursday, February 24.
All the crafts will be available while supplies last, with one per person please.
Programs for kids:
Big Ryan will make one more appearance for us in February with his Toddler Show program. This program has been a lot of fun and registration is required for this program. This program will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 @ 10 AM.
Easton Children’s Museum will be hosting a virtual program for us from February 19 thru March 4. The program is called Fossil Discoveries and your child will be a junior paleontologist and excavate fossils and learn about extinction theories and facts about creatures that once roamed the Earth. The way this program works is you can pick a kit up in the children's room at the library starting on Monday, February 14. In the kit will be all the supplies needed and a link to the video. The video can be viewed from Saturday, February 19 thru Friday, March 4; this way you can view it whenever it is convenient for you. This program is for kids ages 5+, there is no registration for this program- pick up the kits while supplies last in the children’s room starting on Monday, February 14.
Melissa Kowal will be returning virtually this month with a Winter Forest Art Class. Kids ages 6+ are invited to pick up a kit with the supplies for this program starting on Thursday, February 17. The video can be viewed beginning on Wednesday, February 23 on Facebook, so you can create with Melissa. Once completed, email us a picture of your creation to youthservices@sailsinc.org so we can share your artwork or tag us on Facebook or Instagram (@bridgewaterpubliclibrary) This program is for kids ages 6+, there is no registration for this program- pick up the kits while supplies last in the children’s room starting on Thursday, February 17.
