Celebrate Winter (books, recipes and crafts!)

Winter Solstice is today!

winter solstice

Today (Tuesday, December 21) is the Winter Solstice.  The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year.  This means that it will start being lighter for longer amounts of time, as sunset is occurring later.  In Boston, for example, there is just over 9 hours of daylight on the day of the Winter Solstice.   Even though the days are getting lighter, it does not mean that the weather is getting warmer.  In fact, January and February are normally colder than November and December.  So…what should we do to keep warm and how should we fill our days?  If you are looking for books, recipes and craft ideas, you have come to the right place.

Books

For book suggestions, it really depends on what age you are looking for.  We have a large collection of board books, picture books and chapter books.  Popular series right now include: Pete the Cat, Elephant and Piggie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, I Survived and Who HQ.  Who HQ is a nonfiction series that has proven to be very popular to those looking for biographies or a little bit of history.  If you would like a more personalized recommendation, we can help!  You can call us 508-697-3331 or fill out a recommendation form.  Sometimes it helps us if we know what books you have read and liked (or didn’t like) to make a recommendation.
