What is an Archival Collection?
The Bridgewater Public Library Archives and Special Collections is, as the name suggests, organized by collection. Archival collections are most often defined by how they came to exist, for example, the records of a company that were naturally compiled over the company's lifetime or a set of Bridgewater photographs that were deliberately collected by a local historian.
Once the collection comes to the Bridgewater Public Library Archives and Special Collections, we process it according to archival standards and create a guide to the collection called a finding aid.
