<p>Always entertaining and enlightening, Dave acquaints his audience with unique, fascinating and extraordinary medical techniques practiced during the 18th and 19th centuries. His medical presentation is a memorable experience that you won’t find anywhere else.</p>
<p>Enjoy a clever mix of intriguing historical facts and humor. Observe the amazing electric Magneto Nervous Machine. Discover why the “ear cone” was placed in the ear and then set ablaze. Downs has assembled a unique collection of medical instruments for your entertainment and edification.</p>
<p>Recipient of the “Best Exhibitor Award” at the New England History Festival, Dave is a retired school teacher with a Master’s Degree in Creative Arts in Education. He belongs to the Living History Association, Olde Colony Civil War Round Table and the Rehoboth Minutemen.</p>
<p>This free program will be held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room, which is accessible by elevator. There is parking in back of the library, located at 15 South Street.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Zeiterion Theatre (The Z) announces a new discounted ticket program for all patrons of south coast area libraries. <p><span id="more-465"></span></p>
<p>There is a limit of two tickets per card holder and the patron must purchase the ticket at the box office located at 684 Purchase St., New Bedford. Tickets may also be purchased by phone at 508-994-2900. Phone order tickets will be held at the box office and released to the patron with the presentation of their SAILS card. Tickets will not be available at the local libraries.</p>

Seating is limited. Contact the box office for tickets.</p>
<p>“Library Nights” at The Z represent an exciting collaboration between cultural institutions, said Mattapoisett Library Director Susan Pizzolato. “At our library we have books and related materials on display right now to support the performances. On Thursday, October 18 at 6:30pm The Z’s Book Group will discuss Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Special guests at the discussion will include the production’s director and cast members. The discussion is free and open to the public. We are thrilled to help promote the terrific programming happening at The Z.”</p>
<p>Katherine Knowles, CEO of The Z, said “The Z is thrilled to partner with the Libraries. Together, we strengthen the role of cultural organizations. Together we inspire, educate and entertain diverse members of our communities thereby creating healthy and vibrant communities.”</p>
<p>The SAILS Library Network includes over 70 libraries from Wareham to Seekonk and Brockton, and every town in between, including New Bedford and Fall River. The Zeiterion’s ticket discount program adds to the museum pass program already offered by libraries. Library cards are free to all with proper identification at all Massachusetts libraries.</p>

Ms. Bernstein has collected dozens of stories and anecdotes revealing the wit and wisdom of our political history. This is a look at the light-hearted side of American politics.</p>

<p>Judy Bernstein is a graduate of New York University School of Dramatic Art, and she holds a Masters Degree in Oral Communication. She has performed on radio and television in New York City and has taught at the college level. She now tours with her one-woman historical dramas.<br />
This free program is funded by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library. It will be held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room, which is accessible by elevator. There is parking in back of the library, located at 15 South Street.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>John Root will speak at the Bridgewater Public Library on the subject of “Edible Wild Plants of the Northeast” at 7p.m. on Tuesday, September 25<sup>th</sup>.</p>
<p><span id="more-444"></span></p>
<p>“Edible Wild Plants” is a comprehensive introduction to the identification and uses of wild plants for food and beverage.  This 90-minute power point presentation features distinguishing characteristics, seasons of availability, habitats, methods of preparation, and nutritional value of our region’s most common and appealing wild plants.  Questions and comments are welcome throughout the presentation.  Food samples are offered to participants, and illustrated pamphlets with plant descriptions, guidelines for responsible and safe foraging, and a bibliography for further study are distributed as well.</p>
<p>The program, which is free and open to the public, is supported by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library and by a grant from the Bridgewater Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.</p>
<p>Parking is available in back of the library, located at 15 South Street.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Bridgewater Public Library is sponsoring a workshop for all caring adults who read to children, from birth to 5 years.</p>
<p><span id="more-435"></span></p>
<p>Help Me Get Ready to Read is an interactive workshop which provides: Research on the impact reading aloud has on school success; criteria for choosing good children’s books; reading strategies to introduce early literacy concepts and skills; positive parenting strategies to foster your child’s self-esteem; suggestions of good books to read aloud to your little ones; follow-up fun activities to enrich the read-aloud experience.</p>
<p>The workshop will be facilitated by Susan Mark and Barbara Kasok, and will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd, from 6:30-8:00p.m.<br />
Susan Marx taught in elementary schools in Massachusetts, New York, and California. As a parent educator, she has facilitated hundreds of positive parenting workshops at homeless shelters, libraries, preschools, daycare centers, early childhood conferences and elementary schools. She has worked as a writer and editor of reading and language arts materials for major educational publishers. Marx has three adult children and eight grandchildren.</p>
<p>Barbara Kasok taught in elementary schools in Massachusetts and Connecticut. As a reading specialist, she taught in federally funded Title I (K-4) reading programs in Massachusetts. She worked as a project manager at Silver Burdett Ginn, a division of Simon and Schuster, and developed and edited reading and language arts materials for Houghton Mifflin, Harcourt, and Curriculum Associates. Kasok has three adult children and two grandchildren.</p>
<p>Parents, grandparents, early childhood professionals, literacy volunteers, librarians, and preschool staff are invited to this fun and informative workshop.</p>

<p>All Story Times run for 6 weeks beginning the week<br />
of Oct. 1 and ending the week of Nov 5th.<br />
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and begins Sept. 17th.</p>
